Maldives Marketing and Public Relation Corporation (MMPRC) has brought in a team of journalists from German speaking countries, as part of the official tourism promotion body’s series of familiarisation trips to promote Maldives.

The five journalists come from Austria, Switzerland and Germany, and represent traditional media channels that are popular in their respective countries. With a combined circulation of five million, the newspapers include, Ruhr Nachrichten, Main Post and Fuldaer Zeitung in Germany, Riese Tipp in Austria, and Migros-Magazin in Switzerland.

As part of the trip, themed as “discover a brand-new luxury experience,” the team of journalists will be staying at luxury properties such as You & Me by Cocoon Maldives, The Residence Maldives Dhigurah and Pullman Maldives Maamutaa.

They will be indulging in the different culinary experiences, exciting excursions such as dolphin cruises, and unique spa treatments available at the resorts.

This familiarisation trip — the third for the German market and the 22nd overall — is amongst several marketing activities initiated by MMPRC this year to promote the Maldives in German speaking countries.

Activities conducted in the region include participation in renowned travel trade fairs such as BOOT Dusseldorf, ITB Berlin and FESPO Zurich. Roadshows were also conducted in prominent cities such as Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna.

Germany currently ranks third amongst the top source markets to Maldives tourism. A combined total of 151,414 arrivals were recorded from Germany, Austria and Switzerland by the end of October compared to the 135,655 arrivals from the three countries in the same period last year.
