Sun Island Resort & Spa has celebrated its 21st anniversary.

Sun Island, owned and operated by leading local hotel group Villa Hotels & Resorts, opened its doors to guests on November 7, 1998.

In a message posted on social media, Abdulla Fathhey, the General Manager at Sun Island, reflected on the resort’s journey over the past two decades.

“On behalf of Sun Island team, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our honourable Chairman and our MD for creating a wonderful environment where there are plenty of opportunities for growth and development,” the message read.

“An achievement of 21 years wouldn’t have been possible without their vision, guidance and learning opportunities for our betterment and progress of the company.”

Sun Island has not only “grown in numbers but also in talents and creativity,” Faththey said. He went onto praise his team, hailing them as “the ones turning vision into reality with their hard work, commitment and loyalty towards the company throughout the years.”

Faththey also thanked the thousands of guests that have chosen Sun Island Resort as their destination of choice in the Maldives.

“Once again I wish you all a very happy anniversary and looking forward for a more successful future,” the message read.

A flowering jewel amongst Maldives family hotels, Sun Island offers over 460 guest rooms, including Standard Beach Bungalows, Superior Beach Bungalows, Beach Pool Villas, Sunset Villas, Water Bungalows and Presidential Suites, making it the largest resort in the Maldives.

Sun Island has recently introduced brand new Beach Pool Villas, offering enhanced living and relaxation facilities to guests.

The luxurious resort features nine dining options. Local and international buffet spreads are available at Maaniyaa Restaurant. Barbecued seafood is served at Guraamuli Grill Terrace and Italian cuisine is available at Ristorante Il Pontile. Alternatively, Thai dishes can be found at Sun Star, and refreshing beverages at Mekunu Bar.

Sun Island houses an Araamu Spa retreat, which offers a wide range of relaxation options and invigorating treatments, including aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian Ayurvedic therapy, and body scrubs and facials.

The resort also offers a variety of recreational facilities, including a PADI-certified dive centre, table tennis, football, tennis and basketball as well as water sports facilities.
