Maldives invites Australian journos for promotional fam trip

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has brought in a team of journalists from Australia, as part of the official tourism promotion body’s series of familiarisation trips to promote Maldives.

The team, which arrived in the Maldives on Sunday, will be staying with Secret Paradise, and Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, as well as on vessels provided by Yacht Maldives.

Until Saturday, the team will get to experience the diversity of the Maldives’ tourism products, from guesthouses in local islands to resorts and life aboard liveaboards.

These experiences would be featured as articles and photographs in their respective publications in Australia, including well-known publications such as Escape, West Australian, Marie Claire, WHO Magazine and Traveller.

“This is the 15th group to arrive in the Maldives as part of a series of familiarisation trips organised by MMPRC. The aim of these trips is to further increase the exposure for the destination in the international markets,” a statement issued by MMPRC read.

Australia is amongst the top 10 source markets for the Maldives, with a market share of 2.3 per cent of the tourist arrivals. From January to August, 26,496 Australians spent their holiday in the Maldives — a 10.7 per cent increase over the same period last year.

MMPRC kicked off the series of familiarisation trips in April, starting with a team of Indian journalists and bloggers. The official tourism promotion entity has so far brought in teams from the UKChina and South Korea, as well as countries from Eastern Europe.
