The first ever international beach volleyball tournament in Maldives has kicked off at Furaveri Maldives.
The President of Maldives Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament kicked off on Friday. Science and technology minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal officiated the official opening ceremony.


The tournament, which will conclude on September 29, is organised by Maldives Volleyball Veterans (MVV) and Ministry of Youth Sports and Community Empowerment in collaboration with Biggs Island Productions (BIP) and Beach Volleyball Thailand (BVT).
During the tournament, Maldivian teams are joined by 26 international teams, including those from North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.


The tournament sees male and female athletes compete in a ‘Men’s Pro Doubles’ division, a ‘Mixed Rec Doubles Division’, and a ‘Mixed Rec Quattro Division’. Each team plays in round-robin format leading up to knockout rounds and finals on September 29 where the winning team will be awarded prize money of USD 7,000.
