Celebrated Thai photographer Chi Wai David Lau has arrived in Maldives to capture the beauty and culture of the island nation, in a bid to promote the destination.
David will be staying in Kuramathi Maldives and Jumeirah Vittaveli, as well as Season Paradise. At these locations, he will experience the Maldivian hospitality whilst capturing the natural beauty and culture of the Maldives through his lens.
The pictures taken during his stay will be unveiled in Siam Paragon, a popular mall located in the heart of Thai capital Bangkok.
David, whose interest in photography began at the young age of eight, generally takes pictures that showcase the unique cultural aspects of the countries he visits.
His recent exhibitions in Bangkok featured pictures from his trips to Sichuan, Tibet, Indonesia, Russia, Kenya and Morocco. His most recent published work displays photos from his visit to Russia and Sichuan, China.
David has received the Associateship of Photography from Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand.
The celebrated Thai photographer is in the Maldives as part of a series of familiarisation trips conducted by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to promote the Maldives.
MMPRC kicked off the series of familiarisation trips in April, starting with a team of Indian journalists and bloggers. The official tourism promotion entity has brought in teams from the UK, China, South Korea, as well as countries from Eastern Europe.
“MMPRC aims to promote Maldives tourism in Thailand and increase arrivals,” a statement issued by MMPRC read.
A total of 32,436 tourists from Thailand visited the Maldives in 2018 — an increase of 24.6 per cent from the previous year. That growth has continued this year, as 17,697 Thai tourists visited the Maldives by the end of July.
