Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has commenced a week-long marketing initiative for the travel trade and media in Australia.

The activities kicked off on Sunday with a “Journey to the Sunny Side” roadshow attended by top travel trade partners. The roadshow, held from September 23-27, covers three prominent cities of Australia: Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.

The roadshow serves as a platform for Maldivian industry partners to showcase products and gain further exposure. The Maldives delegation is headed by Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of MMPRC, whilst officials from 11 companies have participated in the roadshow to create potential opportunities and to further strengthen the relationship with Australian tour operators.

A raffle draw winner will also be chosen from each city and given a complimentary holiday package to the Maldives, with sponsorship from Crown & Champa Resorts, Villa Hotels & Resorts, The Residence Maldives, Voyages Maldives, LUX* South Ari Atoll and LUX* North Male Atoll. Singapore Airlines have sponsored the air tickets.

As part of the marketing activities, a media event will also be held in Sydney. Prominent Australian travel publications such as Vacations and Travel Magazine, Traveller, MiNDFOOD, Vogue Living, Marie Claire, the Robb Report, Signature Media and the Australian Women’s weekly will attend the event.

“The objective of the media event is to share the destination updates with the Australia media and establish relationship to gain further exposure to the destination in addition, to reach out the relevant target segments,” a statement issued by MMPRC read.

The Australian market has seen tremendous growth this year, reaching the 10th position amongst the top contributors to the Maldives tourism. A total of 23,785 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Australia in the January-July period — a 12.2 per cent growth over the same period last year.
