Kuramathi Maldives has celebrated Earth Week with a week-long programme of activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment.

For Earth Week, Kuramathi Maldives organised a week-long event that involved an island clean-up, educational visual presentations about the environment, and a guided tour of the island’s precious resources. The resort’s dedicated team members and helpful guests contributed to the success of this environmental initiative.

On day one, team members split up to collect plastic, aluminium and other rubbish on the island.

The next day, more than 30 certified divers participated in a clean-up dive and gathered 30 bags of rubbish from the ocean. After the dive, the resort’s resident marine biologist organised an informative presentation about protecting our species where guests had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of marine life through a microscope.

Kuramathi concluded the Earth Week celebrations with a stroll along the island’s Nature Trail and a visit to its Hydroponic Garden, which allows the resort to harvest about 500 kilograms of different salad greens every month to serve in guest and team member buffets.

“At Kuramathi, we take pride in all our initiatives, big and small, and believe that if we all work together, our combined effort will surely benefit our environment and our beautiful planet,” an announcement by the resort read.

Kuramathi is one of the first resorts to open in the Maldives and is part of Universal Resorts of Universal Enterprises, a 100 per cent Maldivian company and the pioneers of tourism in the Maldives.

An emerald jewel in the turquoise Maldivian waters, Kuramathi is a stunning island retreat with acres of luxuriant vegetation surrounded by spectacular beaches tapering into an endless sandbank. Villas blend contemporary design and nature, and are set on the beach, amongst lush gardens or over water. Four poster beds, open-air bathrooms, rainfall showers or Jacuzzi, large outdoor decks with inviting daybeds or sun loungers, are just some of the creature-comforts enjoyed by guests.

Dining options are diverse with many restaurants, bars and great-value all-inclusive packages, topped off with Maldivian service – welcoming, genuine and friendly.
