MMPRC kicks off fam-trip series to promote Maldives, invites Indian media

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has kicked off a series of familiarisation trips to promote the Maldives, starting with a team of Indian journalists and bloggers.

As part of this tour organised by MMPRC, the team from India is visiting local islands and resorts from April 15-20 to experience off the beaten track activities available in Maldives. MMPRC will also give a destination presentation to the group to share information about the Maldivian tourism industry.

“The main purpose of this trip is to promote Maldives as a tourist destination via blogposts and articles. The team will explore the undiscovered side of Maldives, which is the local island life and Maldivian culture,” a statement issued by MMPRC read.

Their trip began at Guraidhoo Palm Inn, where they experienced the local way of life by sightseeing the island and experiencing the local cuisine. The team will then travel to Adaaran Club Rannalhi and Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi where they will experience life at a resort and sunset excursion on a cruise.

The team comprises of writers from English daily The Pioneer and Outlook Traveller, India’s first and largest monthly travel magazine. Bloggers in the team include Snigdha Bhowmick from luxury travel and food blog “Salt and Sandals”, Archana Singh from “Travel See Write” travel blog, Pallavi Chaturvedi from “That Desi Girl” blog, and Nivi Shrivastava who is a freelance journalist with Deccan Chronicle and Asian age.

They will be posting dedicated social media posts with destination articles that feature their experience in
Maldives.

“This is the first of a series of FAM trips that are being planned by MMPRC for this year in order to promote Maldives. These trips are an integral part of MMPRC’s marketing strategy to relate the stories of Maldives to the world by inviting various media from across the globe to experience Maldives first hand,” MMPRC said.

India is amongst the top contributing markets to Maldives tourism, with arrivals increasing by nine per cent to reach 90,474 in 2018 from 83,019 the previous year. That number of expected to increase this year, as arrivals from India rose by 66.8 per cent in the first two months to reach 24,217 from 14,519 in the same period last year.
