Kandima Maldives is set to go dark later this month to shed the light on climate change with Earth Hour 2019 celebrations.
The Maldives-based resort will join millions around the world in turning off lights for one hour on March 30 at 8.30pm local time to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness and urgent action.
The theme of the 2019 Earth Hour celebration focuses on climate change, global warming and the reduction of plastic waste in the world oceans. As accelerating climate change and staggering biodiversity loss threaten our planet, Earth Hour 2018-2020 endeavours to spark never-before-had conversations on the loss of nature and the urgent need to protect it.
Kandima Maldives is participating by organising these events and activities:
- 3-4pm: Beach cleaning with Aquaholics Dive & Water Sports Centre
- 6.30-10.30pm: Barefoot BBQ under the stars, during which most of the resort lights will be switched off.
- 6-7pm: Marine biology presentation by Lee Miles, the resort’s resident marine biologist
Kandima Maldives will also hold a glow-in-the dark party at its famous Breeze Pool Bar, which will feature Earth Hour inspired cocktails and tailored entertainment.
“It’s a privilege for us to support such a powerful movement with such a simple gesture,” Brett Castleman, General Manager at Kandima Maldives, was quoted in a statement, as saying.
“Earth Hour reflects a philosophy we try to practice year-round that we all must do our part and together we can make a big difference. Climate change affects everyone, and it also has an impact on the continued success of our business.”
Located on a lush tropical island in Dhaalu Atoll, Kandima offers a choice of 266 stylishly designed studios and villas, with 11 different categories to choose from, all of which have a private terrace and endless tropical views to enjoy.
