Jumeirah Vittaveli has opened an ice skating museum at the resort’s ice skating rink in honour of Olympic gold medalist Evgeni Plushenko.

On Wednesday evening, Plushenko honoured Jumeirah Vittaveli with a performance for the first anniversary of the opening of Ice Ice Maybe…, the first eco-friendly artificial ice rink in the destination.

Plushenko, who inaugurated the ice rink on March 20, 2018, returned this year for the anniversary celebrations of the ice rink, as well as to launch an Olympic gold medal winner ice skating museum at the ice rink. The museum, which showcases costumes and skates from Pushenko’s famous gold medal winning performances, was inaugurated at a special cocktail reception Wednesday evening by Pushenko and Jumeirah Vittaveli’s General Manager Amit Majumder.

Plushenko hails from Russia and was born on November 3, 1982. He is a four-time Olympic medallist (2006 gold, 2014 team gold, 2002 and 2010 silver), a three-time world champion (2001, 2003, 2004), a seven-time European champion (2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012), a four-time Grand Prix Final champion (1999–2000, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2004–05), and a ten-time Russian national champion (1999–2002, 2004–2006, 2010, 2012–2013). Plushenko’s four Olympic medals tied Sweden’s Gillis Grafström’s record for most Olympic medals in figure skating, since surpassed.

Since April 2017, he is the coach of Adelina Sotnikova, the 2014 Olympic champion. He is also the coach of Vladimir Samoilov, successful figure ice skater in Junior Championships, and of Serafima Sakhanovich, gold medal winner at the 2014 Russian Junior Championships.

The 87 sqm ice rink at Jumeirah Vittaveli has been manufactured using Glice, a novel material from Switzerland that allows for eco-friendly ice rinks, eliminating the need to keep the ice rink cold. This enables guests to experience a world-first at Jumeirah Vittaveli when they go for a swim in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, followed by a quick stroll across the beach to put on their ice skates and glide along the picturesque backdrop of a tropical winter wonderland.

The ice rink is open for guests everyday from 12-6pm.

First access to Ice Ice Maybe… is priced at USD 75, which includes two hours of ice skating with protective gear. Ice-cream sundae and a host of custom giveaways and souvenirs will also be provided. All following entries to Ice Ice Maybe… will cost USD 50 for two hours, including ice skating with protective gear and ice-cream sundae.
