Sixteen years ago, on January 27, 2003, Mirihi Island Resort was officially opened by the then Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Ever since that beautiful day, Mirihi has been one of the most unique resorts in Maldives – a barefoot heaven for those who love to enjoy the tranquility and serenity of a far away tropical island. Without a night life of loud music and partying, without a television in the room distracting you from the natural vistas right in front of you, without a manmade pool to keep you away from spending time exploring 6kms of the island’s own magnificent house reef, without the noise pollution of motorised water sports or without having to wear shoes at all, Mirihi has been and still is dedicated in providing guests a deserted island experience, with all the luxuries of a five-star boutique hotel, to enjoy the natural beauty of the Maldives in all it’s splendour.
The 16th anniversary of this barefoot paradise was celebrated by the team with the annual football match against a neighbouring hotel and of course a night of partying with local celebrity singers and dancers.
This year, the team invited Centara Grand Island Resort and Spa to play against them. After a 10-day professional training session with the most decorated footballer and coach in Maldives Kuda Moosa, the Mirihi team won the game with a score of eight to three.
Located in the South Ari Atoll, Mirihi Island is an intimate resort with only 37 rooms, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff. Guests will immediately feel at ease in the safe and beautiful environment. With sand covered floors throughout much of the hotel, guests can relax upon arrival where they will be encouraged to abandon their shoes and enjoy their stay barefoot with the powder-soft sand between their toes.
Travellers looking to socialise and meet like-minded people can book sunset sailing trips, whale shark safaris, diving trips, visits to local islands, sessions tasting the most comprehensive selection of fine rum in the whole of the Indian Ocean, and can enjoy complimentary weekly beach cinemas, board games, table tennis, football and more.
Alternatively, guests can enjoy some time away from it all in their private water or beach villa, on a secluded beach or while enjoying a pampering spa treatment.
