More than 270 representatives from the Maldives will take part in ITB Berlin this year, the country’s tourism promotion body Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) said Thursday.

In a statement, MMPRC said 273 participants from 104 companies will represent the Maldives at the world’s largest travel trade exhibition, which will be held from March 6-10 in Berlin. They will be joined by officials from MMPRC, it added.

In order to share important information regarding this year’s exhibition, MMPRC hosted a pre-meeting at a conference room at TFG Building in capital Male Thursday morning.

The pre-meeting is held every year before ITB, in order to give detailed information about the exhibition, and other opportunities that are available throughout the five-day fair for industry partners to utilise and gain further exposure. Through this meeting, industry partners can also share any concerns or ideas they may have to improve the Maldives’ presence at ITB. MMPRC also takes this opportunity to introduce and meet with the delegation before the exhibition.

ITB Berlin is the largest travel trade exhibition in the world, showcasing over 10,000 exhibitors and visited by over 160,000 visitors. The fair covers all aspects of travel and tourism, including destinations, tour operators, airlines, hotels, bloggers and several other stakeholders from the industry.

As a major traditional source market to Maldives tourism, Germany contributed 7.9 per cent of the total tourist arrivals in 2018 as 117,532 Germans spent their vacation in the Maldives. It was an increase of 4.8 per cent compared to the previous year.
