Marriott has appointed Emilio Fortini as General Manager of Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.

Emilio’s recent appointment coincides with the completion of a USD 20 million renovation to the newly transformed resort, now exhibiting beautiful Maldivian architecture with a contemporary twist to reflect the five-star experience guaranteed at the property.

“At Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, our team understands the importance of instilling the ultimate island holiday experience for guests, inspired by the Maldivian landscape and lifestyle we are fortunate enough to experience everyday. The resort’s new design even takes inspiration from this surrounding environment and we are excited for both new and returning guests to discover the amazing results of this grand refurbishment project,” Emilio was quoted in a statement, as saying.

Emilio is a seasoned hotelier with over 35 years of hospitality experience in Asia Pacific, including leading the refurbishment and subsequent re-brand of properties in previous roles. His passion for travel and hospitality began when he joined Rydges Hotels & Resorts in 1995, where he held several F&B Management roles before being promoted to General Manager in 2001. Emilio moved to Fiji Island in 2005 as General Manager of The Pearl South Pacific Resort, Spa and Championship Golf Course, where he led the refurbishment of the property, turning the resort into the destination of choice for international visitors and Suva expats.

Continuing to excel in the hospitality industry, Emilio pursued further leadership roles as General Manager and subsequently as Senior Vice President Operations at Rendezvous Hospitality Group, managing 13 hotels across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Following his position of Director of Operations at TFE Hotels in 2014, Emilio’s most recent role was General Manager of Lizard Island Resort in Australia before moving to Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa to lead on the renovation project.

Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is situated on the private island of Furanafushi in the Maldives, a 15-minute speedboat ride away from the main Velana International Airport. The five-star resort offers 176 guest rooms designed to blend into the surrounding turquoise waters, pristine beaches and lush greenery. Also boasting seven unique restaurants and bars, the Shine Spa for Sheraton located on its very own island and three outdoor tropical fresh water pools, the resort caters for all guests and is the perfect destination for honeymooners, families with young children or teens and solo travellers alike.
