Thoyyib Mohamed has been appointed as the Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC).
Privatisation and Corporatisation Board President Mohamed Nizar announced Thoyyib’s appointment Tuesday afternoon.
Thoyyib had served as the Chairman of MMPRC as well as a State Minister for Tourism during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration. Most recently, he was the chair of the transitional committee responsible for reviewing the status of state and public companies during the transition period following the September 23 elections.
Thoyyib replaces Haris Mohamed, who served as the Acting Managing Director of MMPRC from October 2015 until his resignation two weeks ago. Haris was tasked with managing the state-owned company after the dismissal of then Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath following several high-profile corruption allegations.
MMPRC is the national tourism office of Maldives, responsible for carrying out promotional activities to become the most preferred island destination of the world under the slogan, “Sunny Side of Life”. As part of its campaign, MMPRC participates in several major international travel trade fairs and organise multiple promotional activities around the world.
