Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2018, the largest annual run held in the Maldives, is set to take place in November.
Registration for the 4,000 slots allocated for the run, which is set to take place in the satellite town of Hulhumale on November 2, opened on September 16. The slots ran out in just two days.
Organised every year by local telecom giant Dhiraagu since 2007, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is officially registered with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), making it the first international run held in the country. It provides the opportunity for Maldivian and international athletes to participate together.
Participants can either join the 5km run or 10km run.
The 10km run comprises the Open Male and Open Female category, while the categories of Open Male, Open Female, Above 45 (Male), Above 45 (Female), School Below 13 (Male), School Below 13 (Female), School Above 13 (Male) and School Above 13 (Female) are included in the 5km run.
Every year, the run is dedicated to a social cause and this year’s theme is to help protect children.
Participants can donate money to one of many endorsed NGOs by purchasing a special Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race t-shirt.
