Morteza Capital Ltd has become the first licensed investment manager in Maldives specialising in hospitality and leisure industry.
The firm has been has been awarded an Investment Advisor’s Licence by the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA) of Maldives, making it the second licensed investment manager in the Maldives and the first to specialise in hospitality and leisure related investments.
In a statement, Morteza Capital said the licence will enable the firm to structure and manage funds and investments on behalf of private individuals and public institutions. The firm aims to provide investors access to investment opportunities mainly in the Maldivian hospitality sector, but also has broader plans to invest in diversified industries, it added.
“Even though the Maldives is one of the top performing hotel markets in the world, investments into this space have not been very accessible. We hope to change this by offering investors the opportunity to participate in collective investments, managed by a professional team and governed under international best practices,” Ghaly Murthala, Managing Director of Morteza Capital, was quoted in the statement, as saying.
Founded in the UK in 2015, Morteza Capital is a boutique investment advisory and management firm specialising in hotel and leisure investments in emerging destinations. It is led by a team of Maldivian and international investment professionals with backgrounds in hotel and real estate investment, banking and investment management.
The firm says it aims to provide investors with returns that are difficult to achieve in core markets by matching unique opportunities with excellence in execution. Its scope of services include investment management and advisory services, development and project management services, and asset management and investor representation.
