Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has hosted a destination stand at Thai International Travel Fair (TITF).

In a statement, MATATO said 10 Maldivian companies, including resorts, guesthouses and travel agents are taking part in the exhibition, which takes place from Wednesday to Sunday.

Organised by Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), an association of Thai outbound tour operators, TITF brings together more than 500 exhibitors from 35 destinations around the world. More than half a million people are expected to visit the four-day exhibition, which is being held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

Thailand is one of the major source markets in the South East Asian region, which posted strong gains in tourist arrivals to the Maldives, with a 21.4 percent increase in 2016. The biggest gains were observed in the number of visitors from Malaysia (18 percent), Philippines (10.3 percent) and Thailand (58.3 percent).

As part of the destination marketing efforts by MATATO, it has in the recent years increased the number of travel trade events that it takes part in. Last year, MATATO along with tourism industry representatives showcased the Maldives at 15 international travel shows and exhibitions.

MATATO has announced plans to participate in 19 international travel trade fairs and exhibition in 2018.

Earlier this month, MATATO along with nine Maldivian companies took part in SATTE 2018, held in Indian capital New Delhi.
