Kuredu marks Environment Day, Oceans Day with lagoon, reef clean-up

Kuredu Island Resort and Spa has marked World Environment Day and World Oceans Day with special lagoon and reef clean-up activities.

On World Environment Day, which was marked on June 5, Kuredu invited interested guests to join the Prodivers team for a house reef and lagoon clean-up.

On June 8, special World Oceans Day snorkelling and diving boat trips were organised. In the morning, snorkelers headed to two reefs and collected debris, while divers headed to Kuredu Express and Express Outreef in the afternoon to enjoy big fish action and remove any debris.

“Kuredu is always committed to doing everything in our power to minimise the environmental impact of the resort,” an announcement by the resort read.

World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. This year’s theme is, connecting people to nature.

World Oceans Day celebrates our world’s shared ocean and our personal connection to the sea, as well as raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and the important ways people can help protect it.

Located on a 1,800 metre by 325 metre remote island in the northern atoll of Lhaviyani, Kuredu is accessible by a 40-minute scenic seaplane flight from the main airport. This 4.5-star resort has 383 rooms, including beach and water villas, making it the second largest resort in the Maldives.
