Amana Takaful Maldives has introduced a special insurance package for guesthouses in Maldives.

An agreement was signed last week between Guesthouse Association of Maldives (GAM) and Amana Takaful Maldives to facilitate the product.

The Guesthouse Cover package by Amana Takaful covers losses arising from fire, flood, storm and natural disasters. This specialised policy is also equipped to safeguard the guesthouse against losses arising from burglary, public liability, malicious damage and many other unforeseen events.

In operation since 2003, Amana Takaful Maldives, which is a subsidiary of Sri Lanka-based Amana Takaful, is a full-fledged licensed general insurance company in the Maldives. It is the only publicly quoted insurance company in the country listed in the Maldives Stock Exchange (MSE).

Allied Insurance Company, the largest insurance provider in the Maldives, has also introduced a range of similar insurance packages for guesthouses. These tailor-made packages offer complete peace of mind and total protection against risks of fire and natural perils such as tsunami and earthquake, and offers a comprehensive variety of add-on extensions to choose from.

Maldives, known world over for its upmarket tourism industry, has resorts in the hundreds spread across the archipelago. The industry has in recent years expanded to introduce more affordable segments, including guesthouses and liveaboards. Some 300 guesthouses have started operations over the past five years as the number of travellers that choose to stay in guesthouses rise.
