The highly anticipated, eco-friendly 90-Villa Hurawalhi Island Resort opened its doors in December and is a spectacular world class site for Scuba diving and snorkelling. This unique five-star resort is nestled amongst the spectacular coral reefs of the Lhaviyani Atoll and offers guests a truly memorable experience seamlessly integrated into the most spectacular setting.
The reef on which Hurawalhi sits is home to a staggering plethora of marine life. Schooling bluestripe snappers and bannerfish mingle with fusiliers and oriental sweetlips. Butterflyfish munch on the coral, completely indifferent to the divers. The stars of the show are most certainly the reef sharks which patrol the reefs and are a regular sight at many of the dive sites, as well as our favourites – the manta rays. A variety of miniature creepy crawlers can be found by eagle-eyed divers. The house reef is easily accessible with tank service provided to the entry points for your utmost convenience and for you and your buddy to dive at your preferred time of day be it morning, afternoon or night.
Lhaviyani Atoll boasts over 50 dive sites, with new ones being discovered on a regular basis.
The in-house dive centre runs single dive trips (morning and afternoon) and regularly organises two tank and fully day trips to showcase the very best diving the Maldives has to offer.
Meet the Hurawalhi Manta Rays
The Maldives is home to the world’s largest and the most studied popular of reef manta rays (Manta alfredi). By staying at Hurawalhi, you have an unmatched opportunity to see these magnificent giants that frequent the waters around Hurawalhi up close and personal.
Hurawalhi has its own Marine Biology Centre with an in-house marine biologist and are collaborating with Manta Trust, the marine and conservation specialists. Manta Trust are teaming up with the island’s in-house 5* PADI instructors to provide educational guided dives and snorkelling in the spectacular reefs and shipwrecks nearby. The island is a nesting site for green turtles and a breeding ground for Manta Rays. Manta Trust is tasked with preserving this natural habitat as well as educating visitors about these beautiful and endangered creatures.
